Introducing My HD to My PS3

Well, my PS3 snubbed my new 1TB hard drive. I really wanted them to play nice with each other after I loaded many movies onto the hard drive.

Once I discovered I could turn my laptop into a Media Server my PS3 recognized, I jumped for joy. However, this would have been too much for Pointy to navigate. Start up the software on my laptop. Turn on PS3. Go find the laptop media server. Go find the correct directories/folders. Plus, I later discovered that sometimes there is a delay in transmission since I relocated the laptop to another floor.

There had to be a simpler solution for her as I no longer wanted to burned DVDs.

A harddrive!!!

The PS3 has a USB port that would accept an external harddrive. After some digging, my PS3 will only play nice with drives that are FAT32. PC hard drives out of a box are NTSC.

DISCRIMINATION I say!

Yes, your computer will format a drive to FAT32 but only up to 32 gigs. I did not want to put any partitions on my HD. I needed mine to be the whole 1 TB. We all know Google is our friend. I searched and searched many sites until I finally found what I was looking for -- Formatting to FAT32 Tool. Yeah!!!

I downloaded the tool. Re-formatted my 1TB hard drive (stoopid PS3) and reloaded all the videos.

Now, Pointy is a happy camper as I've now become her VCR/TiVO. I find the programs she watches and make sure I put it onto the HD for her.

I did teach her something new but don't think it's made a permanent home in her brain yet. If the PS3 does not want to play nice with the HD (yes, sometimes the PS3 doesn't like the video formats), she can hook her laptop to the telly via 9-foot HDMI cable and plug the HD into her laptop. I've only shown this to her once. Let's see if she remembers or will she suffer quietly when she can't watch her programs ;) Or, even think of just watching the stuff on the HD on her laptop.

Murphy Tried to Keep Me in Atlanta

I flew into Atlanta Tuesday night to attend meetings in Alpharetta the next several days. The last time I was here was for Dragon*Con last September.

After I landed, I went hunting for the car rental bus. No bus no more. I was surprised with ATL's new rail system to get to the car rental area. Very neat.

After three days of meetings and getting to know team members for a new project, we were all ready to finish up as early as possible on Friday. The Alpharetta office always talks about the bad downtown traffic that was between them and the airport.

Pics found in the Ladies Rest Room of Bucca diPeppo. I was told that the Gents had pics of little boys going.

Surprisingly, I got to the airport in an hour. I was wondering how long I was going to spent in Atlanta as the traffic signs were up about a slow down due to an event in downtown Atlanta. It was slow, but it kept moving.

I took advantage of the check-in kiosks at the car rental rail station while waiting for the next train that shows up every 90 seconds to 2 minutes. The kiosk gave me the option of taking the 4:15pm flight, but I decided to stick with my 5:30. When I got to the terminal, I was sad to see my 5:30 was delayed an hour. As I didn't want to spend more time at the airport, I decided to change to the 4:15.

When I got to the gate terminal, I checked the monitor again. Delta cancelled the 4:15 flight *argh* The line was long at customer service, but I got on it anyway. While waiting, I called my travel department to find out if I was still booked on my original flight. She said "Yes, and you're checked it". I got off the line, checked the monitors to find the gate for the 5:30 which is now taking off on time and headed to the gate.

As I was walking to the gate, I see these nifty machines around the terminal. If you miss your flight, scan your boarding pass and it will print a new boarding pass with your new flight. I decided to scan my cancelled boarding pass to see what it would give me. I hope it was the 5:30pm flight. Nope, it told me I was confirmed for a 8:15pm. I hunted for the boarding pass I printed at the car rental rail station and scanned that. Yep, Delta ensured I was only on one flight, and sadly, it was the 8:15pm. I even checked the website on my phone. When I changed to the 4:15, it cancelled my 5:30 seat. So much for the info from my travel department.

Now I need to spend time around the terminals until 8:15. I read the newspaper, did some sudoku, bought two pairs of earrings, had dinner and even finished watching The Book of Eli. There was Wifi but you need to pay for it. I miss Phoenix and Jacksonville airports. I could have used my phone as a modem, but I forgot to put the necessary software on my pc. Note to self, remember to put software on pcs.

With no status on Delta, I was awarded the furthest passenger seat from the cockpit. As I sometimes do when I board and I have the window seat, I start snoozing after I settled in and am bored with watching people board. I did hear this lady talking to her car service to inform them that we will arrive early and the flight attendant letting passengers know that one of the toilets was not flushing. I awoke a bit later to learn we're still on the ground. So much for arriving early. The mechanics are trying to fix the toilet. The captain comes on 15 minutes later to tell us to deplane -- take all belongings with you, we would like to fix the plane with no passengers on, hopefully the flight will not be cancelled. It is 9:15pm. To appease the passengers, Delta gave out $6.00 meal vouchers.

I'm hoping they fixed the plane or at least find us a different plane. I really want to get home tonight. I do know, if they can't fix the plane, they will need to provide accommodations as it's a mechanical difficulty and not Mother Nature. At 9:45pm, the Red Coat gave us good news that we got new equipment, and after cleaning and restocking, we will be boarding again. Yippee!!!

I don't know when we took off, but I did finally get home at 1:45am Saturday. 12 hours traveling. I bet all my teammates who lived further than me got home before I did.

Murphy tried, but failed. I'll see you, Atlanta, again in July, maybe. If not, definitely in September for Dragon*Con.

For anyone who travels with their dog, the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has a dog park.

Movie Marathon

It's been a wonderful weekend. The house was all mine. I don't get the place to myself very often. I decided it was going to be movie weekend. I also had a hankering for fish filet since I saw the commercial last month and the promotion was going to end on Sunday.

I started my movie marathon not with a movie but a series I needed to finish as I've kept my friend's DVDs long enough. I finished Dexter Season 1 two months ago. I cut work early on Friday and plopped Dexter Season 2 into the player. I stopped about 4am at Season 3 disk one after 3 episodes.

I didn't ask for one, but my brother gave me a wake up call at 10:30am. As it was a bit too early for filet of fish, I cleaned my bedroom a bit and a quick vacuum, an hour's worth.

Destination: McDonald's for two Filet of Fish and a large chocolate milkshake. Yummmmm.I don't know why, but I should get out of the house more often. It was warm enough for me to drive with the windows down and I was only in a t-shirt. I loved my drive to McDonald's. The roofers were banging away on some of the roofs in my section. I guess others had leaks besides moi. Kids were out. Walkers were walking. Dog walkers were following their dogs. Golfers walking the many greens in the neighborhood. Forsythias, everywhere, were a beautiful yellow. I even saw daffodils here and there. Soon, the landscaper will be putting blooms around the section markers. Spring is surely here!

After yummm lunch, I continued my Saturday movie marathon finishing up Dexter Season 3, 2012 and Precious. I got an early night -- 2 am :)

8:30am Sunday. Why am I up this early? I thought I would take a bathroom break and jump back into bed. Not. I headed out to McDonald's and got me a Egg McMuffin, Hash Brown and coffee :)

I wanted to continue my movie marathon, but my DVD player did not want to work. Instead I hopped on the internet to catch up on the past two days. I also put in a load of laundry which was created from my quick cleaning yesterday. Idiot me finally figured out what's wrong with the DVD player. In computerese, I had a picnic -- problem in chair not in computer. I needed to hit the "PLAY" button; I took for granted the autoplay of a new disk. Woot! Next up was Hurt Locker, Law Abiding Citizen, Where the Wild Things Are, and New Moon (background movie really while doing other stuff).

Since my sis was not here, I had to water the plants, take care of the recycling/garbage and wash the dishes in the sink.

I didn't just watch the boob tube all weekend. Alexis Morgan's DEFEAT THE DARKNESS and Joss Whelan's BEYOND THE NIGHT kept me company during movie breaks. Hopefully, I'll finish these books this week. I did find a craft project that I could do while watching my movies. Just need to sew a seam to complete it. It could possibly be the first project I completed in I don't know how many years.

Movie recap...

Dexter: I'll have to place a Netflix order to catch up on the rest of the Dexter seasons. No, I do not subscribe to the premium movie stations.

2012: Do you think the heads of states have a plan for Dec 21, 2012?

Precious: YOU decide what you want to make of your life. Go, Precious! I might look for Sapphire's PUSH next time I'm at the library.

Hurt Locker: Don't know why we're still over there if we're not wanted.

Law Abiding Citizen: I knew Gerard Butler was in the movie but did not know he was the "bad" guy. He plays a good one.

Ninja Assassin: All that flying blood and body parts.

Where the Wild Things Are: Imaginary friends can help you figure things out. I'm going to do a quick read of this next time I'm at the library or bookstore.

New Moon: The wolves have better bods than the vamps. Alice: "As soon as you put the dog out." Did you ever noticed that Bella never really looks at Edward when she talks to him, especially the scene where she stops Edward?

IMAX Experience

I was totally blown away. The size of the screen was not what I expected. I had to confirm my expectation on the internet. The IMAX CEO says it's just not the screen size.

My brain said my first IMAX experience was a museum. Problem... can't remember which one and where. I think the trip involved a bus. My next one was at the Lincoln Square movie theater complex. Both of them were nature related, I think. Both screens were humongous. I think it was 3 or 4 stories tall. My last one was when I decided to take my Mom, older sis and baby sis to see Happy Feet. Boy, those penguins were really larger than life ;)

I saw Avatar two weekends ago in 3D. I loved the beauty of it and wanted to try it in IMAX 3D. I checked the theater listings and found one not too far from me. Now, I don't need to go into NYC.

Today's IMAX experience was a disappointment for me. I was expecting the humongous screen, and it was not. The experience was not any different than my original viewing of Avatar. Yes, the screen was a bit bigger, but I did not get what I wanted to feel. I think I got that size screen in one of the movie theaters in NYC because I'm sure I experienced Star Wars on that size screen. With the real humongous screen, I thought I would feel like I was on Soaring Over California or Circle Vision of China.

As I caught the matinee showing both times, the only difference in price was $1.00 -- $9.00 vs. $10.00. I was not required to return the glasses, but I had to return the IMAX glasses.

In my opinion, the other theaters have fake IMAX. Once you've experienced the humongous screen, the retrofitted movie theater IMAX screens just don't cut it. This ordinary person, moi, would not notice the other things mentioned by the IMAX CEO about the rest of the IMAX experience.

Now I know if I want the "real" IMAX experience is to double check theaters that have the humongous screen. Or I'll just head on into New York City where I know I can find the real thing.

He's Just Not Into You

It's a crapshoot when you get on a Continental flight whether you get flight entertainment or not. I lucked out last night. This crew did a switch up. You generally get the movie first and then Continental TV. I liked the switch. As I'm generally snoozing before take-off, I generally miss the beginning of the movie and, plus, the meal service and captain interrupts it.

I saw He's Just Not Into You. I totally enjoyed this chick flick. I could even relate with bits 'n pieces of it.

As for becoming the "exception", I'm still waiting. Just as long as my blood is still pumping, there's time for being the "exception".

If I do not become the "exception", c'est la vie.

Plane Movies This Month

Going, I saw 27 Dresses. Coming back was The Bucket List. The sad thing, I will only get to see this set only once. Not like Mad Money and PS, I Love You last month. I'm only making two trips to Phoenix this month and it's another carrier next week -- UScare

27 Dresses was a good chick flick. What a great friend she was to all the brides and what a crappy sister. I knew what was going to happen so the ending was not a surprise. I loved how all her bride friends came thru for her at the end *LOL*

The Bucket List... I knew who was going to go at the end when the two guys met. What was unexpected was who was climbing the mountain? I was happy and teary eyed towards the end of the movie. I loved the movie. I'm going to either need to buy it or at least see it again via NetFlix. I might even make my own Bucket List. Maybe later.

My First Comic Con

I'm no longer a Comic Con virgin. WOW! Definitely different from the Auto Show and business conventions. I went to all three days of the NY Comic Con held at Jacob Javits Convention Center, New York City from Friday, April 18 to Sunday, April 20, 2008.

FRIDAY
After unplanned work *GRRRRR*, I headed into the city. I walked right in after the Con was opened to the general public for an hour and a half -- got my badge holder and lanyard. I checked out some of the booths as I went to find Sherrilyn Kenyon's booth (1907). It was the primary reason I was attending the Con -- see the Author Goddess. Sherri had a LINE. So I picked up a couple of the freebie book, peruse the store (yes, I bought stuff), and waited off to the side until I could give Sherri a "HI" and get a hug. She always give great hugs to fans she gets to know :). Sherri saw my Daimon Biting T-Shirt from K*Con 2007 and handed me "Under the Protection Acheron" button. Off I went to run errands for my bro and co-worker. For my bro, I went to see Sean "Cheeks" Calloway to buy his 2 sketchbooks. Cheeks was nice enough to draw Thor and Superman and autograph the books. Now I'm broke and have to hunt down an ATM machine *If you plan on attending one of these type of Cons, bring lots of cash. Rare do you find plastic accepted* I got majority of what Chris, co-worker, wants. Still got two more days to hunt for his stuff. Back to Sherri's booth I went. I introduced myself to the other Sheri who was manning AG's booth. I got put to work handing out freebie book, bags and restocking the other freebies (buttons, postcards, bumper stickers, bookmarks). Ed was taking care of the storefront. When the public was finally shooed out, I hung around to help clean up, restock what we can for tomoorow and discussed additional signage. AG's hubby and kid and Alethea Kontis finally arrived. I met them, got some DH wear for tomorrow and headed home. I worked on signage before heading off to bed.

SATURDAY
I met up with my bro to hand over the sketchbooks and hitch a ride into the city. I could always count on my bro for a ride. He dropped me off 10 minutes before the Con opened. Whoa, what a line to get in. I got to be in a line that was about 15 people wide and about two blocks long. It took me 40 minutes to get into the Exhibition Hall. What a difference from yesterday! They had Star Wars characters to entertain the masses as we slowly inched our way in. Once in, I hurried over to Sherri's booth, put up the signage and then disappeared. I spent the next several hours at the IGN Theatre.

** Disney's WALL*E -- This is the latest production from PIXAR. Multiple scenes from the flick were shown. It's a hit with me and I think it will be a great hit for all ages. It tugs at your heart.

** Disney's The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian -- Besides seeing the movie trailer, the audience got to talk to Ben Barnes (Price Caspian and what a cutie), William Moseley (Peter Pevensie), Peter Dinklage (Trumpkin) and producer Mark Johnson. Mark Johnson said there will be at least one more Narnia. I guess I should find time to see the first one soon. For me, it will still be a DVD movie.

** SciFi Battlestar Galactica -- I only sat through this cause I was waiting for the next offering. Besides the clip, the panel had Michael "Tigh" Hogan, Michael "Anders" Trucco, Rekha "Tory" Sharma and SciFi exec. There were lots of fans for BG. If you're interested, there are YouTubes that captured the panel discussion.

** Star Wars and Indiana Jones -- The press agent for LucasFilms presented videogame Star Wars: Force Unleashed, annual celebration in Tokyo 2009, animated TV series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and live interview with Seth Green and Matt Senreich who produce the stop motion Star Wars: Robot Chicken (YouTube has this really entertaining interview). Did you know there's a Lego videogame of Indiana Jones *LOL* cute. We got to see the trailer for the movie.

** Universal Wanted -- Timur Bekmambetov, director, presented this new action-flick based Mark Miller's graphic novel series. I did not know anything about this. The trailer shown makes me want to see it. It has some great stars in in -- Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman. A great fan question was why don't the characters wear costumes. Timur said you would know they were assassins :D

** Universal Hellboy 2: The Golden Army -- Yes, we got to see a trailer. When the lights came back on, we saw that monsters/aliens joined the panel. Along with Guillermo Del Torro (director) was Mike Mignola (creator of Hellboy), Selma "Liz" Blair , Ron "Hellboy" Perlman, Doug "Abe Sapien" Jones and Luke Goss (Prince Nuada). As promised, Guillermo dedicated his three-headed dog which got cut to a fan.

As I headed back to the Exhibition Hall and went in search of a late lunch, I came across this

WOW! *two thumbs up Jack!* Next time, I need to stroll outside of the Exhibition Hall cause I'm sure I missed other promotional items. But not this one

I did some leisurely strolls up and down the aisles, picking up stuff here and there. Not much though. After that, I headed over to Sherri's booth to help out for the rest of the day. I got to hang with Dimitri, NYC Dark-Hunter *shhhh don't tell Ash* Dimitri was steering minions to Sherri. I got to meet Loretta, a long time fan, who was helping to woman the store.

SUNDAY
As my BIL works retail on Sunday, I arranged with him to drop me off and pick me up. What a great idea it was!!! Unlike yesterday, I decided to bypass the regular entrance (me not like lines). Instead, I used the other entrances and got into the Hall pronto. Since the crowd was still inching in, I was able to visit many of the booths. By the time I was finished, I had more goodies than I got from the other two days. Plus I had a goal -- Sunday was Kid Day, pick up kid friendly goodies for my nephews and nieces. Onto Sherri's booth I went to help out for the day. On my breaks, I found more stuff :) The kids are so lucky to have me for an auntie. Once the public was shooed out again, I helped Sherri to pack until my BIL got me. I'm so glad as it would have stunk to lugged all the stuff to the bus terminal.

To see pics of Sherri's booth, go here.

WEEK LATER
I finally unpacked all the goodies and split them up between the two kiddie families and stuff for my brother and sisters. I even found the stuff I got for myself :D. Since I had extra, I'll pass along stuff to my SIL's niece and nephew. As I was going through the items, I thought what a difference in goodies that I got from this convention vs. business convention. At business conventions, I got stress balls, toothbrushes, items to clean your computer screen, dental floss, pens (lots of them), highlighters, bandaids, etc.

I had a blast and will be attending the next NY Comic Com, Feburary 6-8, 2009. But, this one is too far away. I'll be heading to the next Con in Atlanta, GA -- Dragon*Con, August 29-September 1, 2008. I did my ticket registration last year. Just need to take care of my hotel today -- thank goodness for frequent guest points. My work should take care of the airfare *VBG* If not, no big deal as I have frequent miles.

Netflix Catchup

I've been bad. Pointy said I had movies sitting since January. Even though Netflix does not charge a late fee, it's still a waste of money when movies are not watched and sent back on a timely manner. I have the $17.99 plan/3 at-a-time. Pointy also has a 3 at-a-time plan. She's better at watching her stuff. Well, we caught up on movies this weekend.

Norbit - The many personas of Eddie Murphy. It had funny moments here and there. If I remember correctly, Eddie played husband (Norbit), his bully wife (Rasputia) and his orphan home surrogate father (Mr. Wong). There were many scenes where husband and wife played side by side. In the special area, it explained that Eddie played each part a day and talked to a tennis ball.

Zathura - A very good movie dealing with two young brothers who do not get along as they are both dealing with recent parent divorce and are vying for father's attention. They find a game that takes them into outerspace and have to learn to deal with each other in order to get back to earth. It was a shame to watch a beautiful mission style house get destroyed.

Click - Adam Sandler tries to balance work/family life using a remote. Poor guy, what a way to learn what is important. There was a scene that reminded me about Norbit :D. I enjoyed it.

That's all folks. Still have 3 more to watch: Eragon, Hannibal Rising, and Freedom Writers. Maybe next weekend. But three more movies will arrive. What a viscous cycle :D
